Big Pine Island

Wild Florida, Private Living

About fifteen families call this island home. Everything else here is wetland, wildlife, and weather. Alligators sun on the lawns. Hawks nest in the oaks. Fog rolls off the dirt roads most mornings. Sunsets happen for free.

This site exists to show that off.

If You’re Visiting the Site but Not of the Island

We hope it satisfies your curiosity. That said — we’d prefer it if strangers didn’t come onto the island all willy-nilly. Not that you aren’t delightful — we’re sure you are — but some of you are very entitled and take liberties the locals do not appreciate. The sometimes-working gate at the end of the causeway should deter the respectful (even when it’s open). The residents and homeowner’s association will deter the rest.

About the HA

We mentioned an HA, and for many property buyers that’s become a deal-breaker. Homeowner’s associations are considered meddlesome and power-hungry when left to run amok. We here on the island (almost) unanimously agree.

We’re required to keep one because of the surrounding wetlands it “manages.” Other than that, ours has been defanged. We’ve done what we can to strip it of any power over residents’ property.

If you’d like to buy here, we’d appreciate it if you’re similarly minded. Your business and preferences end at your property line.

This site was built collaboratively by a few of us. More photos and resident blogs will be added over time. If you’re of the island and want to contribute, email Dave.
